Basic Skills update
The basic skills update is the annual refresher programme for first aiders and emergency first aiders. In October 2009 the HSE implemented new requirements for first aid. Amongst these new requirements was the Strongly Recommendation that first aiders and emergency first aiders update their skills and knowledge on an annual basis.
The Basic skills update course by Principal Training meets the requirement from the HSE. Who should attend?
This 3 hour programme is for anyone who has attended a HSE approved first aid course since October 2009. It is widely recognised that first aiders skills drop rapidly after attending most first aid courses. Unfortunately, this means that when an incident occurs most first aiders will have lost skills or at least the confidence in their skills. The basic skills course is intended for all of those first aider who don’t get to practice their skills but may one day rely on them.
Where first aiders do get to practice their skills by regular training; for example swimming pool lifeguards or health care professionals, the basic skills update course may not be required as an additional training tool.
